Privacy is trying to hide information like idenitifers, such as; where you live, who you speak to, when you speak to them. We believe in privacy as not only a right, but a necessatity online. Some people have concerns with privacy invading applications or governments spying on them. This is normal as we all have personal things we wouldn't want to share. Security is keeping this information safe from hackers or other threats. Everyone should have basic security understanding, as cyber security becomes more of a problem in the digital age. Security and privacy should live in harmony, but it's important that users know the differences.
Metadata. Metadata is an aggregate of your day into one, that can be used by advertisers and even governments to predict your behavior. An example of metadata, you have an app for a taxi service, you link your credit card to their service so you can refill the app with cash. If the taxi service is linked with third party advertisers(think Uber or Lyft) advertisers now have your credit card, where you traveled, now they can use this data to connect what you have bought, and sell you ads on similar items.
